On March 20, 2025, popular streamer John “Tectone”faced a ban on Twitch, igniting curiosity among fans who speculated that his actions involving anime reactions were the cause. In a YouTube video released just hours after the incident, Tectone clarified that there was more complexity to the situation.
In the video, Tectone sought to dispel the notion that his ban was solely due to watching anime. He explained his communication with Twitch support, which revealed that the reasons behind his ban were not as straightforward as many presumed:
“I talked to Twitch staff themselves, to get the full reason, which was hilarious. I am not going to lie, people think it was because I was reacting to anime, which isn’t the whole truth. There is more to it than that.”
The Coming Revelation and Previous Behavior
During the video, specifically around the 4:00 mark, Tectone hinted that he plans to disclose the full reason for his ban once he is reinstated on March 21, 2025. He took a moment to reflect on his past behavior on the platform, acknowledging that he had skirted Twitch’s guidelines without facing penalties before:
“The things that I have done. Like, getting naked on stream, ‘naked’ on stream. I had underwear on, put a black bar over it. Simulated j**king off on stream, didn’t get banned for that. Watched p*rn on stream before, didn’t get banned for that. I’ve watched Dragon Ball Super on stream, didn’t get banned for that.”
“And when you guys hear why I got banned, and I hate to bait you this hard, but I really want to keep it as a surprise for tomorrow on stream because I will be getting unbanned.”
Tectone’s Thoughts on Accountability and Platform Management
Timestamp 2:24
While Tectone addressed the speculation about his anime-related content, he admitted that he felt the suspension was warranted. He expressed his hope that other streamers would receive similar consequences for any violations:
“I will say this, I can b**ch, I can moan. I can say, ‘Wah, wah, wah, I can’t believe Twitch did this.’ No, I deserved it, I absolutely deserved it. I think more people should get banned for what I did.”
Moreover, Tectone criticized Twitch, describing the platform as a “cesspool,”emphasizing that he believes stricter regulations are necessary. He articulated his concerns that streamers who enable harmful content should be held accountable:
“And I think more people should get banned for what they did because I think Twitch is kind of a cesspool right now. I’m happy at least they dropped the hammer on moderating me. I hope other streamers who platform terrorists, will, get some type of comeuppance in the future. Because I think Twitch is heading in a really sh**ty direction. I think it’s becoming a joke of a platform, which is a shame.”
Interestingly, Tectone’s comment about “terrorists”could refer to his previous criticisms of fellow Twitch streamer HasanAbi, who has often been at the center of controversies on the platform.
