‘Coco 2’ Theatrical Release Scheduled for 2029

Exciting News: Coco 2 is in Development at Pixar

Pixar Animation Studios is set to enchant audiences once again with the announcement of a sequel to the beloved film Coco. During Thursday’s Annual Shareholder Meeting, Disney CEO Bob Iger revealed that Coco 2 is currently in the early stages of development, with a theatrical release scheduled for 2029.

Creative Team Returns for the Sequel

The sequel is set to reunite the talented minds behind the original film. Notable figures such as director Lee Unkrich and co-director Adrian Molina are returning to lead the project. Additionally, Mark Nielsen, known for his work on Toy Story 4 and Inside Out 2, will take on the role of producer. Iger emphasized the potential of this new installment, stating, “While the film is just in the initial stages, we know it will be full of humor, heart, and adventure, and we can’t wait to share more soon.”

A Recap of the Original Film’s Success

Originally released in 2017, Coco tells the moving story of a 12-year-old boy who aspires to be a musician. His journey leads him to the vibrant Land of the Dead, where he seeks the guidance of his great-great-grandfather, a deceased musician, in order to pursue his passion for music. The film received critical acclaim, winning prestigious awards including a Golden Globe for Best Motion Picture – Animated, a BAFTA for Best Animated Film, and Critics’ Choice Awards for Best Animated Feature and Best Song.

Expansion of the Coco Experience at Disney Parks

In addition to the forthcoming sequel, Disney is enhancing the Coco experience at its theme parks. A new ride-through attraction inspired by the film is slated to open at Disney California Adventure, promising to immerse guests in the colorful and musical world of Coco.
