Postponement of Good Day Episode 6 Amid Controversy
On March 20, 2025, MBC officially announced that the airing of episode 6 of Good Day would be postponed. This decision came in light of an escalating controversy surrounding actor Kim Soo-hyun, specifically allegations regarding his past relationship with the late actress Kim Sae-ron when she was a minor. The backlash intensified after his appearance in the episode that aired on March 16, prompting MBC to reassess the program’s content before the next broadcast.
According to the announcement,
“The 6th episode of ‘Good Day’ that was scheduled to air on Sunday, March 23rd will be taken a week off for program reorganization,”as reported by OSEN.
The network further added,
“‘I Live Alone Special’ will be aired during that time slot. We ask for the viewers’ understanding,”as reported by OSEN.
Prior to this announcement, producers of Good Day had decided to cut Kim Soo-hyun’s segments due to the ongoing controversy. Despite this, the actor had participated in a recording session on March 13, 2025, which included footage for the episode that aired just a few days later.
Response from the Production Team
After the contentious episode aired on March 16, the Good Day production team addressed the public the following day through their social media channels. They expressed regret over the situation and declared their commitment to minimizing Kim Soo-hyun’s role.
They shared their concern about how the controversy could overshadow the show’s integrity and the efforts of other cast members. Additionally, they noted that the episode broadcasted on March 16 had been hastily reedited, resulting in a runtime shorter by approximately 10 minutes due to the removal of Kim Soo-hyun’s scenes.
“The March 16 episode was a hastily reedited version with Kim Soo-hyun’s scenes removed. As a result, the broadcast was about 10 minutes shorter than usual, and some details were lacking,” reported The Korea Times on March 17, 2025.
In clarifying their recording decisions, the production team stated that they had planned to limit Kim Soo-hyun’s visibility in the episode while ensuring that his individual recording would not be included in future broadcasts. They confirmed their intention to exclude him from segments filmed on February 18 across the next series of episodes.
Details of the Allegations Against Kim Soo-hyun
The controversy began on March 10, when the YouTube channel Garosero Research Institute published a video featuring allegations from Kim Sae-ron’s aunt. She claimed that a relationship existed between her niece and Kim Soo-hyun when Kim Sae-ron was merely 15 years old and Kim Soo-hyun was 27. This revelation has stirred public sentiment and scrutiny.
Further claims suggest that Kim Sae-ron was involved with Gold Medalist, a management company founded by Kim Soo-hyun, working there pro bono to assist with its establishment. Allegedly, the two ended their relationship in 2022 amidst a scandal involving Kim Sae-ron’s DUI incident.
After her contract with Gold Medalist expired in 2024, it was reported that the company demanded a repayment of funds associated with her DUI scandal damages. Following her attempts to contact Kim Soo-hyun—only to be met with silence—she expressed feelings of betrayal. In an effort to regain his attention, she shared a photo with him on social media, yet the resultant statement from both Kim Soo-hyun and Gold Medalist portrayed her unfavorably.
Tragically, Kim Sae-ron passed away on February 16, 2025, with authorities ruling her death a self-inflicted incident. Gold Medalist has since denied any allegations concerning their relationship during her minor years.
In the aftermath, the actress’s family has initiated legal action against YouTuber Lee Jin-ho for disseminating harmful rumors about her, citing the significant emotional distress caused. Attorney Boo Ji-seok, representing the family, has also indicated possibilities of pursuing legal accountability against Kim Soo-hyun.
