Bridget Cato and Ernest Cato Share Insights from The Amazing Race 37
During an exclusive interview with Parade on March 13, 2025, Bridget Cato reflected on her participation in The Amazing Race 37 alongside her father, Ernest Cato. Their dynamic in competition has provided them both with unique insights about each other, particularly in leadership roles.
Unexpected Shifts in Leadership Dynamics
“The biggest thing I would say I learned about my dad is, I think growing up, he was always the boss,”Bridget remarked.
Despite her childhood perception of her father as the dominant decision-maker, Bridget was pleasantly surprised to experience a reversal in roles during their race. Although they completed the competition as a father-daughter duo, they faced elimination in the second episode after encountering difficulties in the Intersection task.
A New Perspective on Father-Daughter Relationships
Bridget’s time on The Amazing Race 37 was described as “eye-opening.”She discovered that her father was willing to transition into a more supportive role, allowing her to take the lead at crucial moments. “He wanted to be a partner,”she explained, highlighting this newfound approach to their collaboration.
“Just watching her come up and then getting to this phase in life to watch her literally take the lead. And not only just take the lead, become a partner and share her thoughts on how we should do things,”Ernest shared.
Their evolving communication techniques and problem-solving strategies played a significant role in overcoming obstacles together on the show.
Confronting Challenges in Competition
While they began the race with a promising start, Ernest and Bridget soon faced critical challenges. The Intersection task required teams to partner with one another, leading to complications. Ernest battled through a drumming task, attempting the task over 15 times before finally succeeding, which caused their team to transition from first to last place.
“So I was just really happy and proud to kind of see. We were able to work together, and how he was willing to let me take charge of situations, I was not expecting it,”Bridget noted about their collaboration.
Reflecting on the Experience
In retrospect, both father and daughter acknowledged the profound impact of their experience during the race on their relationship. Ernest noted the necessity of stepping back when Bridget took charge and remarked on how right she was in many instances. He appreciated the opportunity to see her leadership skills flourish.
Ultimately, their shared adventure in The Amazing Race not only strengthened their bond but also reshaped their understanding of each other. Ernest expressed his pride by stating he felt “just fortunate”that Bridget continuously embraced the lead role.
