Embracing Evolution: Le Sserafim’s Latest Venture
Le Sserafim has always been at the forefront of innovation in the K-Pop scene. This five-member group has captivated audiences with their diverse sound, recently releasing two distinct EPs in the previous year. The first, Easy, launched in February, set the stage for their energetic performance debut at Coachella. Later that year, on August 30, they introduced the experimental project, Crazy, showcasing their dynamic artistry.
Now, with the release of their anticipated album trilogy’s final chapter, Hot, Le Sserafim—featuring members Chaewon, Sakura, Yunjin, Kazuha, and Eunchae—presents a fresh perspective, leaning into a more minimalistic, groove-centric sound. The album’s title track is marked by its bass and drum-driven melodies that stand in contrast to the group’s earlier works. Additionally, the B-side, “Come Over,” a collaboration with J Lloyd and Lydia Kitto of the British band Jungle, exudes a nostalgic 60s ambiance, perfect for those looking to dance.
In a recent conversation with The Hollywood Reporter, member Yunjin expressed a personal connection to the album’s essence. “I resonate with many aspects of this album,” she remarked, emphasizing its relatable themes. On Weverse, she reflected on her journey through the trilogy, stating, “Love persevering is what this album embodies.” The group, under Source Music—an affiliate of K-Pop powerhouse Hybe—has grown remarkably since making their debut in May 2022. Following the release of Hot, they are slated to embark on the Easy Crazy Hot tour, kicking off next month in Incheon, South Korea, before exploring various Asian countries and planning North American dates in September.
During a vibrant Zoom call from Seoul, the group members bubbled with excitement, sharing their thoughts on the album, their artistic growth, and their evolving dynamics as a team.
Reflecting on the Trilogy Experience
YUNJIN: “We poured our love and dedication into Hot. This project marks our first thematic deep dive into love. It was a remarkable experience to explore such a profound subject. Our goal was to inspire others to chase their passions, even when the outcome is uncertain. Personally, I embraced the creative process more than ever because the essence of our album revolves around cherishing the journey.”
SAKURA: “Completing this trilogy from Easy has been a source of immense pride for me. We’ve made significant strides both collectively and individually throughout this journey, and I am looking forward to further evolving as an artist.”
Exploring New Artistic Sounds
CHAEWON: “Creating Hot pushed us to explore a new genre. We invested considerable time in mastering our singing technique for this style. While the track might sound softer, it requires us to express emotion delicately. Striking that balance was integral to delivering our message effectively.”
YUNJIN: “The themes of rebirth and persistence resonate deeply within me. This album embodies the idea that even as parts of ourselves fade, we are reborn anew. It’s a comforting reminder that we can rise from our past and embrace a life filled with love and passion.”
Favorite Tracks from Hot
KAZUHA: “My favorite is definitely ‘Come Over.’ Collaborating with Jungle was a privilege. The song captures a vibe I adore, and I couldn’t wait to see how it would fit within our album.”
EUNCHAE: “I share Kazuha’s sentiment about ‘Come Over.’ Its message encourages authenticity and spontaneity, and it’s just such a joyful track to sing.”
CHAEWON: “‘Come Over’ strikes a chord with me as well. It’s an honor to collaborate with Jungle, and their performance left a significant impression on me. This song resonates with the idea of enjoying life in the moment.”
YUNJIN: “I also love ‘Come Over,’ but ‘Ash’ speaks to me too. My favorites seem to shift as I revisit the album.”
SAKURA: “For me, ‘Ash’ stands out because it captures our musical growth and artistic identity beautifully.”
Strengthening Team Dynamics
CHAEWON: “We’ve grown increasingly comfortable with one another. It’s heartwarming to discover what genuinely good people my members are. Our teamwork has flourished, and there’s so much we can learn from each other.”
YUNJIN: “I realized how true love manifests through our connection when I was reflecting on my members during a four-hour journey. I respect and cherish each one of them more than I ever realized, and that bond is truly special.”
SAKURA: “The sentiment that we need all five of us to thrive is incredibly meaningful. Our trust and reliance on each other are what make our team strong.”
Hoping for Audience Connection
KAZUHA: “We are human too, despite our public personas. We experience joy and worries like anyone else. Through our music, we aim to resonate with our listeners, inspiring courage and connection.”
