Fans Respond as NJZ Members File Trademarks Under New Name in 10 Sectors Amid Legal Challenges

NewJeans Transitions to NJZ: Trademark Applications and Legal Struggles

The K-pop sensation NewJeans, now known as NJZ, has made headlines recently by filing for trademarks across ten categories during an ongoing legal dispute with ADOR, a subsidiary of HYBE LABEL. According to a report by Maeil Kyungjae dated March 18, all five members—Minji, Hanni, Danielle, Haerin, and Hyein—have taken steps to secure their new group name through legal channels.

Initially, NewJeans rebranded as NJZ on February 7, 2025, via their new social media platforms. The trademark application was officially submitted on February 6, 2025, just one day ahead of their public announcement.

Details of the Trademark Filing

As reported, the group has registered in ten different categories, although only five have been disclosed thus far. These include:

  • Class 03: Toiletries and non-medical cosmetics
  • Class 20: Furniture
  • Class 25: Goods for sale, including clothing
  • Class 18: Leather and imitation leather products
  • Class 35: Advertising services

This diverse range of products will be marketed under the NJZ brand, illustrating the group’s potential expansion into various sectors.

Fans Excited for New Projects

News of the trademark application has sparked a wave of excitement among fans, known as Bunnies, who have been vocally expressing their enthusiasm across social media platforms. Anticipation is high for upcoming projects from NJZ.

“They are always 10 steps ahead; they’re already cooking up something great, trust me,”a fan shared.

“Oh, we’re getting a full comeback! They’re not playing around. So proud of them,”stated a user.

“They’re really gonna come back to us in just a few DAYS,”another fan commented.

Fans Rally Behind the NJZ Members

Support for NJZ continues as fans eagerly await news of their return. Comments expressing excitement about potential new releases and merchandise have been prevalent.

“Ohh, they’re not playing around with NJZ! I love the Tokki bong, but if we get a new concept, I won’t complain,”a fan remarked.

“Best believe they’re taking back what’s rightfully theirs,”another netizen noted.

“Every artist deserves to maintain their own trademark, not the company’s,”added a supporter.

Legal Battle with ADOR

NewJeans’ transition comes amid a tumultuous legal battle with ADOR. In November 2024, the group announced the termination of their contract with the agency, alleging breaches. Following this, they pursued independent activities. In January 2025, ADOR filed an injunction to prevent NJZ from engaging in advertising without consultation—citing the group’s protection as a rationale.

The first legal hearing took place on March 7, 2025, with a decision expected on March 14. Simultaneously, ADOR is pursuing a lawsuit to affirm the validity of their exclusive contract with NJZ, with a court date set for April 3, 2025.

Upcoming Projects and Performances

Amidst these developments, NJZ has hinted at new music anticipated for release in March 2025. Additionally, they are scheduled to headline the COMPLEX CON music festival in Hong Kong on March 23, 2025. This performance is expected to be a significant showcase of their new branding.
