Gwyneth Paltrow Talks Timothée Chalamet in Upcoming Film
Gwyneth Paltrow recently shared insights about her role as Timothée Chalamet’s love interest in the much-anticipated film Marty Supreme. Featured on the cover of Vanity Fair, Paltrow discussed her character’s dynamic with Chalamet, who plays a professional Ping Pong player named Marty Mauser in this Josh Safdie-directed project, the follow-up to his critically acclaimed 2019 film Uncut Gems.
Setting the Scene
The film, set in the 1950s, explores the complexities of a relationship where Paltrow’s character is married to someone involved in the underground Ping Pong scene. “She’s had a pretty tough life, and I think he breathes life back into her, but it’s kind of transactional for them both,”Paltrow explained. Their on-screen chemistry was sparked by a kiss that elicited significant online buzz when images surfaced from the film’s Central Park set last fall.
Behind the Scenes: Intimacy and Connection
In discussing their intimate scenes, Paltrow humorously noted, “We have a lot of sex in this movie,” emphasizing the depth of the romance between their characters. She reflected on her first experience with an intimacy coordinator, saying, “There’s now something called an intimacy coordinator, which I did not know existed.” Although she expressed some initial reservations, she eventually found her rhythm. “I think we’re good. You can step a little bit back,”she jested, referencing the set dynamics between her and Chalamet.
Working With Timothée Chalamet
Even before filming, Paltrow revealed that she had not seen any of Chalamet’s previous work. However, she quickly acknowledged his talent, calling him “a thinking man’s sex symbol.” She appreciated his manners and dedication to his craft, characterizing him as both polite and a “fun partner”to work with. Despite their age difference—”I’m 109 years old. You’re 14” —her playful approach to their scenes highlighted her comfort on set.
A Family Connection and Project Significance
Encouraged to join the project by her brother Jake Paltrow, a fan of the Safdie brothers’ style, this film marks Paltrow’s return to feature films since she appeared in Avengers: Endgame in 2019. In a diverse ensemble, the cast includes Tyler the Creator, Kevin O’Leary, and Odessa A’zion, with production led by A24 alongside the Safdies and their team.
Release Date and Anticipation
Marty Supreme is set for theatrical release on Christmas Day, further fueling excitement for this unique collaboration.
