2023 Children’s and Family Emmy Awards: ‘Percy Jackson’, ‘The Velveteen Rabbit’, and ‘Orion and the Dark’ Shine as Major Winners

The 2025 Children’s and Family Emmy Awards, held on Saturday, highlighted outstanding contributions in children’s television, with major accolades awarded to productions such as Percy Jackson and the Olympians and The Velveteen Rabbit.

Both Percy Jackson and The Velveteen Rabbit, along with Orion and the Dark and various projects from the Sesame Street franchise, secured two awards each during the main event. Additional award winners will be disclosed during a separate creative arts ceremony later that evening.

Percy Jackson earned recognition for both Best Young Teen Series and the Directing award for the episode titled “I Accidentally Vaporize My Pre-Algebra Teacher,” sharing the directing honor with the episode “The Big City” from A Real Bug’s Life.

The Velveteen Rabbit was honored with awards for Best Fiction Special and for Phoenix Laroche, who received the accolade for Younger Performer in a Preschool, Children’s, or Young Teen Program.

In the animated categories, Orion and the Dark was awarded Best Animated Special, as well as the Younger Voice Performer award for Jacob Tremblay, the voice behind Orion.

Among other notable achievements, Blue’s Clues & You was named Best Preschool Series, while Fraggle Rock: Back to the Rock received honors for Best Children’s or Family Viewing Series. The Best Non-Fiction Program award went to Stand Up & Shout: Songs From a Philly High School. Christian Slater also took home an award for his role as Mulgarath in The Spiderwick Chronicles, and Meryl Streep was recognized as Best Children’s Personality.

The third annual ceremony was hosted by Eric Bauza, renowned for his voice work with Looney Tunes, who also received an award that night. The event was broadcast live from Television City in Los Angeles via the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences’ Emmys website and their app.
