Recently, the divorce settlement between singer Teyana Taylor and former NBA player Iman Shumpert has captured widespread attention on social media. On March 12, 2025, DJ Akademiks (@akademiks) revealed the agreement’s details, sparking discussions among fans and followers.
To provide some context, Taylor initiated the divorce proceedings in January 2023, yet it wasn’t finalized until early 2024. The couple publicly acknowledged their relationship in June 2014 via social media platforms.
While they maintained a relatively private lifestyle, Teyana Taylor disclosed their marriage during a September 2016 appearance on The Wendy Williams Show, mentioning that the ceremony was intimate. The duo shares two daughters.
Settlement Breakdown and Social Media Reactions
As outlined by DJ Akademiks, Iman Shumpert is required to make a substantial one-time payment in seven figures to Taylor. Additionally, he must pay $8,000 monthly for child support and cover their daughters’ private school tuition. Akademiks commented on the situation, stating:
“Damn. Sign up to get married brehs…”

The internet quickly responded to this news, with many users implying that Shumpert received an unfavorable deal. One commenter remarked:
“Being faithful is cheaper.”

Commenters also noted that Akademiks’ post seemed to portray Teyana Taylor negatively while neglecting to mention Shumpert’s involvement in the settlement. Discussions about the couple’s past infidelity surfaced, highlighting the complicated nature of their relationship.
Allegations of Infidelity Amid Divorce Filing
In a report from June 2024 by Hot New Hip Hop, it was detailed that Taylor filed for divorce after about seven years of marriage, citing infidelity as a major concern. Legal documents reported by TMZ indicated that Taylor accused Shumpert of multiple cheating incidents and cruel behavior throughout their relationship.
Although specifics were not disclosed, Taylor alleged that Shumpert actively sought reconciliation post-divorce filing but subsequently engaged in another affair. This revelation was particularly shocking given that Taylor had previously claimed, in a now-deleted Instagram post, that infidelity was not a factor in their separation.

Taylor mentioned feeling unable to cope with the emotional strain of their relationship, as well as expressing frustration over Shumpert’s jealousy regarding her career success despite earning more than her. She claimed to have dampened her own accomplishments to maintain household harmony, which only led to increased anger and abusive behavior from Shumpert.
Interestingly, during her maternity leave, when she paused her career to focus on their family, Shumpert reportedly began expressing discontent about her lack of income.
Settlement Details and Future Rumors
The divorce settlement also included Taylor retaining four properties valued at approximately $10 million, alongside luxurious assets such as a Maybach and several other vehicles. Additionally, she maintained ownership of her businesses, Taylormade and Auntie’s. Meanwhile, Shumpert retained his Miami condo and several properties in South Georgia and Decatur, along with all related personal investments.

Following the finalization of their divorce, rumors emerged about Shumpert dating Amber Rose, which began circulating after social media users spotted them together at a beach. Despite Shumpert’s comments downplaying the relationship as a mere friendship, allegations arose suggesting he and Rose were involved prior to his split from Taylor.
Teyana Taylor’s close friend D’Asia Nicole even hinted at a past affair between Shumpert and Rose while he was still married, adding a layer of complexity to the public’s perception of their relationship.
