Brad Pitt Takes the Wheel in Upcoming F1 Film
Brad Pitt is set to make waves on the racing scene with the release of the full trailer for his latest film, F1. In an exciting twist, the acclaimed actor performs his own driving stunts throughout the movie.
Film Details and Release Date
This highly anticipated Apple film, directed by Joseph Kosinski, is scheduled to hit theaters and IMAX on June 25. The ensemble cast includes talented actors such as Damson Idris, Kerry Condon, Tobias Menzies, and Javier Bardem. Pitt stars as Sonny Hayes, a retired Formula One driver who is coaxed back into the high-octane world of racing by a team owner, portrayed by Bardem, to mentor a burgeoning talent, played by Idris.
Authenticity in Racing Culture
During a recent press event where the trailer made its debut, director Joseph Kosinski shared insights into the film’s authentic depiction of the racing landscape. He collaborated closely with racing icon Lewis Hamilton, who serves as a producer, as well as F1 team principal Toto Wolff, to authentically convey the speed and thrill of the sport.
“Toto suggested we use real race cars instead of building a movie car that could achieve race speeds. His idea was to integrate the necessary cameras into genuine F1 cars,” Kosinski revealed. “As a result, every time viewers see Brad or Damson driving, they are behind the wheel of actual race cars on a professional F1 track,” he noted.
Star’s Natural Driving Talent
Kosinski commended Pitt’s exceptional driving skills, noting, “From the very beginning, Brad exhibited an innate ability behind the wheel. It’s unclear if he was born with it, but his experience riding motorcycles likely contributes to his talent.” This natural aptitude gave Hamilton and the production team confidence in their ability to deliver an authentic racing experience.
Innovative Camera Technology
To capture dynamic racing sequences, the film’s team built upon the advanced camera technologies utilized in Kosinski’s previous film, Top Gun: Maverick. “The main challenge was developing a new camera system; we applied everything we learned from Top Gun and took it to the next level. It’s not feasible to attach 60 pounds of equipment onto a race car and expect it to perform optimally,” Kosinski explained.
<![CDATA[Passion for Racing]]>
In the trailer, Pitt’s character passionately declares, “If the last thing I do is drive that car, I will take that life, man—thousand times.” This line encapsulates the film’s exploration of the profound connection between drivers and their love for racing.
Production Team
F1 is brought to life by a talented production team that includes Joseph Kosinski as director and Ehren Kruger as the screenwriter, who collaborated on Top Gun: Maverick as well. Producers for the film feature notable names such as Brad Pitt, Joseph Kosinski, Lewis Hamilton, Jerry Bruckheimer, Dede Gardner, Jeremy Kleiner, and Chad Oman.
