Announcement of All You Need Is Kill Anime Production

On March 13, 2025, Warner Bros Japan officially announced the production of the highly anticipated anime film All You Need is Kill. The announcement video not only confirmed the movie’s development but also teased upcoming information regarding the animation studio, director, and voice cast.

The source material for this adaptation, a light novel, has seen a manga version produced by various authors, currently serialized in two volumes in Japan.

The promotional video kicks off with thrilling scenes depicting an intense battle between humanity and alien forces. Central to the narrative is a character who has the uncanny ability to repeatedly relive pivotal moments after death, enabling them to restart from critical checkpoints in time.

As the video progresses, viewers are introduced to the title of the project along with insights into its production. Notably, the animation work will be handled by Studio 4°C, acclaimed for its distinct visual style and previous works such as Children of the Sea and the upcoming title ChaO.

Direction for the film will be helmed by Kenichiro Akimoto, a prominent figure in the anime realm, recognized for his contributions to projects like Berserk: The Gold Age Arc as storyboard director.

The illustrious creators behind the light novel also hold significant roles in the anime sector. Yoshitoshi Abe, acclaimed for his character design and key animation on Serial Experiments Lain, leads the character design efforts for this project. The light novel’s narrative has also been adapted into a manga illustrated by renowned artist Takeshi Obata, famous for his work on Death Note and Platinum End. The story is penned by Ryousuke Takeuchi, who is known for Moriarty the Patriot. It’s noteworthy that the novel was previously transformed into a Hollywood live-action film titled Edge of Tomorrow, featuring stars Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt.

This anime presents a gripping science fiction storyline that unfolds in the vastness of outer space, focusing on human combatants fighting against an invading alien force. One of these warriors, Rita Vrataski, faces an unexpected twist when she perishes on her inaugural day in battle, only to find herself resurrected at a checkpoint in her past. Consequently, she is ensnared in a time loop, repeatedly dying and reviving from the same moment.

Rita’s journey takes a dramatic turn when she crosses paths with Keiji Kiriya, a fellow soldier possessing similar abilities. This encounter raises the stakes: will their meeting alter the course of their fates?
