FiveM has emerged as a popular mod client for GTA 5 Legacy on PC, providing players with access to a wide array of RolePlaying (RP) servers. This platform fosters a distinctive gameplay experience in a non-official multiplayer setting. Recently, Cfx.re, the developer behind FiveM, announced the development of a new conversion tool aimed at facilitating the transfer of assets to the latest Enhanced version of Grand Theft Auto 5.
The Enhanced edition of Grand Theft Auto 5 represents an upgraded release for PC, distinct from the original 2015 Legacy version. It comes equipped with enhanced technical features and new elements that elevate the gaming experience. Following its announcement, Cfx.re confirmed the compatibility of FiveM servers with the Enhanced edition, and the introduction of this conversion tool marks significant progress in that direction.
Cfx.re Unveils Details on the Upcoming Conversion Tool for GTA 5
In a recent blog post, Cfx.re outlined the capabilities of the forthcoming conversion tool, which will support the following asset types:
- Various drawables dictionaries (*.ydd)
- Generic models, geometry, and optional embedded textures, along with lights (*.ydr)
- Complex fragmented skeletons/models for pedestrians, vehicles, and destructible objects (*.yft)
- Texture dictionaries (*.ytd)
This tool is designed to make custom assets created for the GTA 5 Legacy FiveM compatible with the Enhanced version, addressing compatibility issues that could arise otherwise.
Furthermore, the blog emphasized that file types .ycd and .ybn will not require conversion, simplifying the transition process for developers and players alike.
As of March 12, 2025, Cfx.re has yet to establish a release date for the conversion tool. However, the team is nearing the completion of essential tasks prior to the launch, with more updates anticipated to coincide with the tool’s release.
The role-playing servers in Grand Theft Auto 5 have gained immense popularity within the PC gaming community, despite their unofficial nature. In a significant development, Rockstar Games acquired Cfx.re in August 2023, signaling their ongoing interest in the modding community and the evolution of GTA 5’s multiplayer offerings.
