Wendy Williams Reveals Her Guardianship Conditions Following Hospitalization and Psychological Evaluation

Wendy Williams recently provided a candid update regarding her health and ongoing conservatorship as a guest on Good Day New York on Tuesday, March 11, 2025. This appearance followed a concerning incident the previous day where she was transferred from an assisted living facility to a hospital for evaluation.

Since 2022, Williams has been under a court-mandated guardianship, a situation that has brought significant changes to her daily life. Living in an assisted living facility in New York since her dementia diagnosis in 2023, she shared the challenges she faces, including restrictions on activities such as going outside and exercising. She explained that any outing, even to the building’s gym, requires permission and an escort.

“In terms of how much it costs, it has to be approved by my guardian person. My money is, like, in the air.”

During her interview, Williams expressed pride in having excelled in a recent psychiatric evaluation. Her caretaker and friend, Ginalia Monterrosa, echoed this sentiment, asserting that Williams is not incapacitated despite her diagnosis and confirmed that she intends to present the evaluation results to the presiding judge in the guardianship case.

Wendy Williams Prioritizes Regaining Autonomy

In 2022, Wendy Williams was placed under temporary financial guardianship by her bank, Wells Fargo, which claimed that she was an “incapacitated person”subject to undue influence and financial exploitation. Her attorney, La’Shawn Thomas, noted that Williams disagreed with this designation and has been actively fighting for control over her financial affairs.

When asked by host Rosanna Scotty about her future aspirations during the interview, Williams expressed:

“Staying in New York, going back to work and—what will I do? Hm, I have options. But in terms of getting out of guardianship, that is my number one, A, number one most important thing.”

Although Williams has a history of alcoholism, she indicated that she does not plan to employ a sober companion if she regains her independence, stating her firm commitment to sobriety. However, she expressed interest in hiring a financial consultant to guide her financial decisions moving forward.

This update comes on the heels of a dramatic event where Williams reportedly threw a handwritten note from her fifth-story window, pleading for assistance with the message, “Help! Wendy!!”. This prompted a welfare check by authorities, leading to her hospitalization for a mental capacity assessment.

According to reports from the New York Post, Williams is scheduled to appear on The View on Friday, March 14, where she will presumably discuss her situation with co-hosts Whoopi Goldberg and Sunny Hostin through a phone call.
