Steve Buscemi Joins the Cast of *Wild Horse Nine*
Renowned actor Steve Buscemi has been confirmed to join the stellar ensemble of *Wild Horse Nine*, a new project from Searchlight Pictures under the direction of Martin McDonagh. This marks McDonagh’s return to feature filmmaking following his critically acclaimed work on *The Banshees of Inisherin*.
Joining Buscemi are distinguished talents such as Sam Rockwell, known for his outstanding role in McDonagh’s *Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri*, along with John Malkovich and Parker Posey. The film, which combines elements of dark comedy and drama, is set to commence filming later this month on the remote island of Rapa Nui, also referred to as Easter Island.
Unique Filming Location
Details surrounding the plot and characters of *Wild Horse Nine* remain largely undisclosed, but the choice of Rapa Nui as a filming location is particularly noteworthy. Located approximately 3,700 kilometers off the coast of Chile, this island is among the most isolated inhabited places in the world. Its unique geography makes it a site that rarely sees American or British productions, adding an intriguing layer to McDonagh’s latest cinematic venture. The island is also largely preserved from modern conveniences, being predominantly managed under the Rapa Nui National Park.
Behind the Scenes
Steve Buscemi takes over a role originally intended for Mark Ruffalo, further solidifying his position as a versatile actor capable of taking on diverse characters. The film is produced by Graham Broadbent and Pete Czernin, both long-time collaborators with McDonagh, along with Anita Overland from Blitz. The production is a joint effort by Blueprint Pictures and Film4.
Overseeing this exciting project are Searchlight’s senior VP of production Taylor Friedman and director of development and production Pete Spencer, ensuring that the film maintains high standards of creativity and execution.
Buscemi’s Thriving Career
Steve Buscemi’s illustrious career boasts an impressive array of acclaimed films, including *Reservoir Dogs*, *Fargo*, *The Big Lebowski*, *Con Air*, and the award-winning series *Boardwalk Empire*. Additionally, he has lent his voice to popular animated franchises such as *Hotel Transylvania* and *Transformers One*. Audiences can next look forward to seeing Buscemi alongside Jenna Ortega in Netflix’s *Wednesday*.
Not only an accomplished actor, Buscemi has also made his mark as a director. His most recent film, *The Listener*, featuring Tessa Thompson, premiered at the 2022 Venice Film Festival, further showcasing his talents behind the camera. He has directed episodes for various notable series, including *30 Rock*, *Portlandia*, and the post-apocalyptic comedy *Miracle Workers*.
