Fans React to Eric Stonestreet’s Casting as a Serial Killer in ‘Dexter: Resurrection’ — “He’s Being Framed by Lilly”

In a notable development reported by Deadline on March 10, actor Eric Stonestreet, widely recognized for his role in *Modern Family*, has joined the cast of Showtime’s upcoming drama series *Dexter: Resurrection*. Stonestreet, an Emmy award winner, is set to portray a serial killer named Al, adding an intriguing layer to the series.

*Dexter: Resurrection* serves as a follow-up to the prequel titled *Dexter: Original Sin*. The series boasts an impressive ensemble cast, featuring prominent actors such as Michael C. Hall, Krysten Ritter, Neil Patrick Harris, David Zayas, James Remar, Jack Alcott, Uma Thurman, Peter Dinklage, Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine, Kadia Saraf, and Emilia Suárez.

The news of Stonestreet’s casting was initially shared by the Twitter user @DiscussingFilm, igniting a viral response across the platform. Fans expressed a mix of excitement and humor regarding the actor’s new role.

One user, @heyyitsjanea, humorously connected Stonestreet’s new character to his *Modern Family* co-star, Aubrey Anderson–Emmons, remarking:

“He’s being framed by Lilly.”

Overall, the reactions to Stonestreet’s casting have been largely positive, with fans sharing their thoughts:

“This guy, Brad Williams, if all the new serial killers turn out to be ‘exciting,’ this spinoff can challenge the original series or maybe even top it if it’s all written well. Not too many people appreciated the original; it took streaming to make it a cult classic.”
a netizen wrote on X.

“This could be quite good. Can we get a season with more than 8 episodes? How has TV devolved from seasons having 24 episodes to 8 while every production cost has diminished with new technologies over the last 20 years?”
another user commented.

“Wow, Eric Stonestreet as a serial killer in *Dexter: Resurrection* is a surprising and exciting twist! It’ll be fascinating to see him bring his comedic charm to such a dark role in Dexter’s twisted world. Can’t wait to see how this unfolds!”
another user expressed.

In addition, some fans revisited Stonestreet’s previous roles, asserting that he is more than capable of taking on the serial killer persona. One user, @XayIn3, expressed interest in keeping some casting decisions under wraps:

“He was great in the small role he had in season 1 of *American Horror Story*, so he can definitely pull this off in my opinion.”
a netizen wrote.

“So I wasn’t watching *Dexter* when it originally came out because I was young, but did they announce who the killers were like this? I feel like it would be better to leave it a mystery.”
another user remarked.

“Whoa, that’s awesome. I only know him from *Modern Family*, but he was far and away my favorite character. Would love to see him in a new role.”
