Unlike the more abundant Pillopod, Gillopods require specific weather conditions to be spotted, making them a more challenging find.

Finding Gillopod in the Ruins of Wyveria
Gillopods can be discovered in the Ruins of Wyveria. To enhance your chances of encountering them, the weather must be in the Wyvern’s Wakening state or during the designated Plenty season. If the weather cannot be changed due to story progression, you can rest at a nearby camp to trigger the desired conditions.
These elusive creatures tend to inhabit areas close to Wyrmways and nests of the Guardian. A reliable spot for finding them is near Area 2. After exiting the tunnel in this area, you will likely encounter both Gillopods and Pillopods on a stone structure nearby.
Gillopods are larger than their Pillopod counterparts and are easily identifiable by their vibrant colors and striking orange eyes. Ensure to look for them during the aforementioned weather conditions to optimize your search.
Effective Strategies for Capturing a Gillopod
To successfully capture a Gillopod, equip a Capture Net from the Radial Menu. Once ready, aim your slinger at the Gillopod and launch the net to ensnare it. Keep in mind that Gillopods are usually located in proximity to Pillopods; if you’re having trouble locating them, return to the pop-out camp in Monster Hunter Wilds and reset the weather conditions as needed.
It may require several attempts before a Gillopod spawns in your location, so persistence is key. Once you successfully capture one, proceed to return to the researcher to fulfill the quest requirement.
