Warning: Spoilers for JSA #3
The Justice Society of America (JSA) prides itself on being a unified family of heroes. However, this unity is now threatened as a familiar villain, Johnny Sorrow, infiltrates their ranks. Sorrow, known for his manipulative tactics, has assumed the identity of a vital team member, putting the JSA in a precarious position. With a key hero missing and an enemy hidden among them, their perilous situation deepens.
In the latest issue, JSA #3, crafted by creative talents Jeff Lemire, Diego Olortegui, Luis Guerrero, and Steve Wands, Doctor Mid-Nite (Beth Chapel) is tasked with monitoring young Jakeem, who is currently incapacitated after a confrontation with the Injustice Society. Upon conducting a blood test, she uncovers alarming evidence that leads to a startling revelation.

Johnny Sorrow Steals Obsidian’s Identity to Invade the Justice Society of America’s Roster
The JSA’s Scariest Enemy Has a Hero’s Immense Power at His Disposal

First introduced in “Sorrow Ever More”from Geoff Johns and Phil Winslade within the 1999 Secret Origins of Super Villains 80-Page Giant #1, Johnny Sorrow stands as one of the JSA’s most notorious adversaries. His disfigured face, concealed beneath a mask, possesses a deadly curse: those who glimpse his true appearance meet their demise. This deadly power becomes a crucial point in Doctor Mid-Nite’s confrontation with Sorrow, as he claims during their clash, “I’ll show you things that will haunt you, girl. I’ll show you my true face!”, thus revealing his identity to her.
Johnny Sorrow’s audacious impersonation of Obsidian raises alarms within the Justice Society. As the son of Alan Scott, the original Green Lantern, Obsidian commands incredible powers, including the ability to manipulate shadows, which could prove catastrophic in the wrong hands. Sorrow’s manipulation of this strength has already manifested when “Obsidian”debuted a nightmarish form to terrorize his foes in JSA #1 and now threatens young Jakeem.

Sorrow’s strategy to create internal conflict significantly weakens the JSA’s resolve.
As the Injustice Society’s scheme unfolds, the JSA faces the crucial challenge of reuniting before Sorrow’s manipulation culminates in their downfall. Will the Justice Society of America manage to reclaim their unity in time to thwart Sorrow’s nefarious plans?
