Overview
- Recent leaks suggest that Wriothesley may reappear in Genshin Impact Version 5.4 after more than a year in the Fortress of Meropide.
- Managing a balanced event schedule poses challenges for Genshin Impact, with over 90 characters vying for limited rerun slots.
- Although a new buff in the Spiral Abyss seems beneficial for Wriothesley, players may still experience extended periods between reruns until triple banners are introduced.
A recent leak pertaining to Genshin Impact indicates that Wriothesley is likely to return in Version 5.4 after an extensive hiatus of over a year at the Fortress of Meropide. The challenge of maintaining a fair event banner schedule has intensified, especially given the growing roster of over 90 characters. Assuming an average of one 5-Star character released per patch, at least 43 limited 5-Stars would require a rerun annually. Unfortunately, the current system only allows for 27 banner slots, making it nearly impossible to satisfy all characters’ rerun needs.
The introduction of the Chronicled Banner was a developer’s attempt to tackle this scheduling dilemma. However, many players perceive it as a temporary fix rather than a comprehensive solution. For instance, Shenhe had to endure over 600 days waiting for her rerun confirmation for Version 5.3. Until the game developers are ready to embrace the concept of Triple Banners, players can expect longer intervals before they see their favorite characters return.
A prime example of this scheduling issue is Wriothesley, a Cryo Catalyst whose initial banner debuted in Version 4.1. He has not appeared in banners since then, leaving players in a state of anticipation. Wriothesley represents a contemporary cryo hypercarry, excelling in Burnmelt team compositions that deliver substantial damage. Unfortunately, players have been unable to reintegrate him into their teams since November 8, 2023. However, as noted by Flying Flame, his potential return in Version 5.4 could change that.
Anticipating Wriothesley’s Return in Version 5.4

It’s essential to consider that Flying Flame’s track record regarding Natlan leaks has been inconsistent. While they did accurately predict a new Chronicled Banner for Version 5.3 centered on the Lantern Rite, other revelations have proven to be inaccurate. This caution suggests that Genshin Impact players should approach the current Wriothesley leak with a degree of skepticism. However, the newly introduced Spiral Abyss buff could significantly enhance Wriothesley’s playstyle, lending some credibility to the rumors.
Additionally, Version 5.4 is anticipated to welcome Mizuki, potentially the first Standard Banner character from Inazuma. If this is the case, Wriothesley and Mizuki could headline one Event Banner, while another banner may feature either Furina or Venti. Historically, Archon characters in Genshin Impact rerun in sequence, and currently, these two are the only Archons yet to secure a rerun. Version 5.4 is set to premiere on February 12, 2025.
