Marvel Comics has recently unveiled thrilling new possibilities for Gambit, portrayed by Channing Tatum, in its new TVA series. Following the anticipated arrival of Tatum as Remy LeBeau in the upcoming 2024 film Deadpool & Wolverine, where he emerges from years of developmental obstacles, fans have much to look forward to. In this cinematic adaptation, Gambit joins various other variants seeking refuge in the Void at the End of Time.
The fresh narrative brought to life by writer Katharyn Blair and artist Pere Pérez in Marvel’s TVA #1 reflects the established MCU timeline while showcasing the Time Variance Authority’s connection to both the cinematic Earth-616 and the original comic book universe. This crossover opens up exciting recruitment opportunities for Agent Mobius and B-15 as they gather multiple variants, including the beloved Spider-Gwen from Earth-65, following the chaos caused by Loki’s interaction with the Temporal Loom.
However, B-15 also makes a point to recruit a variant of Gambit to the TVA as well:
The Gambit featured in this new comic installment does not seem to mirror the characterization from Tatum’s portrayal in Deadpool & Wolverine, as he possesses a defined home timeline and a past relationship with Rogue. Shown on the TVA monitors in the Deadpool & Wolverine’s post-credits, Ryan Reynolds later released the full sequence where it’s implied Tatum’s Gambit survives the battle in the Void and escapes via a classic sparkle portal.
Given these developments, it seems inevitable that Gambit will resurface in the MCU’s landscape. Tatum’s character expressed uncertainty about his origins, indicating he might have even been “born”in the Void—a clever nod to the challenges surrounding his standalone film adaptation.
