Timelines for Overwatch 2 6v6 Experiments
Previously, while Blizzard had confirmed that two 6v6 testing phases were in the works for Season 14, specific dates were not disclosed until recently. The latest content update went live on December 10, heightening players’ eagerness for the upcoming Gameplay experiments.
The initial 6v6 trial, known as Role Queue, will span from December 17 to January 7, 2025. In this mode, every team will consist of two players assigned to each specific role, ensuring a balanced team dynamic. Following this, the Min 1, Max 3 experiment will run from January 21 to February 4. This format requires each team to include at least one tank, damage, and support hero, but allows for the flexibility of having up to three players in any one role. Notably, players will be able to change roles mid-match, provided there’s at least one teammate remaining in their current role.

- 6v6 Role Queue:
- Available from December 17 to January 7, 2025.
- Each team contains two players predetermined for each role.
- 6v6 Min 1 – Max 3:
- Active from January 21 to February 4, 2025.
- Allows between one to three players per role.
- Mid-match role swapping is allowed if another player remains in the current role.
These innovative 6v6 gameplay modes will be available only for a limited duration. However, Blizzard has indicated that they will monitor player engagement closely, and depending on the reception, there could be potential for these formats to return or even be incorporated as permanent fixtures alongside the existing 5v5 format. For enthusiasts eager to see a permanent 6v6 setup, it’s crucial to participate actively during these experiments to demonstrate player demand.

Additionally, these 6v6 experiments are distinct from the return of Overwatch: Classic in Season 14. This event will also reintroduce the widely debated “Moth Meta” from 2017, although specific dates have yet to be announced. With the season concluding on February 18, 2025, it seems plausible that the nostalgic event may occur either between the 6v6 trials or shortly thereafter, ideally from January 7 to 20. This arrangement would offer fans over a month of continuous 6v6 gameplay.
