In the words of Palpatine, the dark side serves as a gateway to numerous abilities that are often deemed unnatural, and the existence of various dark side relics in the Star Wars universe affirms this claim. While we frequently encounter living beings who harness the Force, it is essential to recognize that both the dark and light sides can also be infused into inanimate objects. Notable examples, such as the Sith Wayfinder, which is revered as one of the most ancient Sith artifacts, illustrate this intriguing aspect of the Force.
In her book Into The Dark, Claudia Gray details the Jedi’s classification of Force artifacts into three distinct types. As Reath Silas articulates:
“The Jedi elders have identified three main kinds of Force artifacts,”he said to the assembled group in the comm area. “There are artifacts that contain certain memories or even personalities of past Force users. There are artifacts that enhance a Jedi’s ability to use the Force. And then there are artifacts that hinder or confound that ability – Force dampeners, you could call them.”
Though many artifacts possess seemingly basic features, some wield such formidable power that they pose a substantial threat to the entire galaxy.
3 The Echo Stones
Powerful Enough to Grant Non-Sensitives Access to the Force

The Echo Stones remain enigmatic artifacts, believed to originate from a planet teeming with the Force, known only as Planet X. Their properties allow them to amplify the Force to extraordinary levels—so much so that they can grant access to the Force even to those who are not Force-sensitive. However, this amplification comes with dire consequences, as misuse can warp and distort the Force, resulting in catastrophic events that may even fracture entire planets. Originally sought after by the early Sith like Darth Ravi, these stones were hidden throughout the galaxy.
During the High Republic Era, the Echo Stones resurfaced, transformed into a powerful artifact enabling the Nihil leader Marchion Ro to command Force predators known as the Nameless. These creatures are notorious for draining the Force from even the mightiest Jedi, rendering control over them an invaluable asset for anyone opposed to the Jedi order. The fate of the Echo Stones may soon be unveiled in Charles Soule’s upcoming novel, Trials of the Jedi.
2 The Mask of Darth Momin
The Potential Return of One of the Most Fearsome Sith Lords

Interestingly, Palpatine’s greatest unease came not from the Jedi, but from the prospect of a Sith lord’s return. He harbored an intense fear of an ancient Sith undermining his authority. Thus, it seems surprising that he did not take more drastic measures to eliminate the mask of Darth Momin, which encapsulates the essence of a Sith heretic. The individual who dons this mask becomes possessed by Momin’s spirit.
Palpatine likely recognized the inherent value of this mask. It appears Momin taught its wearer the Sith technique of essence transfer, a method through which he sought immortality by relocating his existence into a clone. Furthermore, Momin, a Sith architect, exploited the energies of Force vergences, having designed Vader’s fortress on Mustafar, a site notorious for its ability to create rifts through the Force.
Despite Darth Vader’s disdain for his ancient predecessors, he ultimately left Darth Momin’s mask discarded within the Sith shrine at his fortress.
1 The Muur Talisman
The Zombie Horde of Star Wars

The Muur Talisman, crafted by the Sith Lord Sorzus Syn in tribute to Lord Karness Muur, possesses the terrifying ability to transform beings into mindless minions—often referred to as zombies. Any non-Force-sensitive individual touched by the Muur Talisman becomes a “rakghoul,”while a Force-sensitive wielder can use its power to convert anyone in their vicinity. Alarmingly, such individuals can exert control over the resulting rakghouls.
Envision this scenario: a formidable army of mindless thralls under the complete command of a single wielder. This terrifying capability explains why the ancient Sith coveted the Muur Talisman, making it a source of significant concern for the Jedi. Any Jedi exposed to the Muur Talisman risks corruption, and any Jedi or Sith who utilizes it may gain the ultimate reward of eternal life—rendered ageless and immortal.
